Former Portsmouth defender and club legend, Linvoy Primus, was informed on Wednesday afternoon that he is to be one of four current staff members of Portsmouth Football Club that will be made redundant.
The 38-year-old, who is currently employed as ‘club ambassador’ was informed today of the cut-backs that the club were making.
Legend is a term thrown around loosely in the modern game, however Linvoy Primus certainly defines the word in every meaning.
He does this not only through his gentlemanly manner, great football skins, unbeatable passion, and dedication to Portsmouth Football Club, but also through his work and help for others.
Linvoy is a man of God, and dedicates the majority of his time to helping people in the community, raising money for his charity and other charities, and supporting those out there who are less fortunate than me and you.
Following his dismissal, Linvoy sent us the following message: “Thanks for all the support and allowing me to be me.
“My faith in Jesus reassures me that when one door closes, another opens.
“Thanks for allowing me into the Pompey family. God Bless.”
Despite the shocking news, Linvoy was positive to look ahead to next week’s charity match to raise funds for his charity, Faith & Football – a game that will see a side of Pompey legends face a select XI of staff and presenters from Sky’s popular footy show, Soccer AM.
Soccer AM presenter, Max Rushden, told us: “Linvoy is the nicest man in football,” – a theory shared by many fans who have had the privilege to have met the Englishman.
A point that has been made numerous times by fans on Twitter, shocked by the news of Linvoy’s departure, is that such a great man has been made redundant, along with many unnamed members of staff behind the scenes, yet Tal Ben-Haim continues to pick up large wages packets (whether they are £36k-a-week or not) and snubs fans after matches. This club has it’s priories wrong!
We wish Linvoy all the best for his future career and there is no doubt that the paths of Portsmouth Football Club and Linvoy Primus will cross again!
Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, passion and everything else Linvoy. You will be sorely missed!

This is the most disheartening news. Linvoy epitomizes all the good things Pompey. If he is cast aside then the name of Portsmouth Football Club is stained forever. The club’s name is already at its lowest ebb after a succession of crooks bleeding the club dry. I just pray that, whatever happens in any possible new ownership, Linvoy is taken back in loving arms. It truly makes me sick that guys earning 36,000 a week are bleeding the club and couldn’t care less. I wonder if Tel Ben Haim has signed up for the Pompey Trust and pledged 100 pounds!!!!!!!!
Posted by Peter Digby | April 26, 2012, 01:01There have been all to many sad days in Pompeys recent history but this has to be the worst, when one of the few players who shows all that is great about the club is shown the door, when other selfish, money grabbing wastes of space bleed the club dry.
God bless you Linvoy for all you have done for our club and our city
