After a number of complaints from Portsmouth fans over the last few days regarding the voting for how the £30,000 Fanpower Stadium prize money should be distributed, the Football League/Npower have confirmed they will be monitoring the situation closely.
We reported last night that the option for a statue of the fans outside Fratton Park was being abused by rival fans – opting for this option over improved disabled facilities in the Milton End and South Stand, or giving free tickets to local schools.
This resulted in a large number of fans complaining to the club, Football League, and Npower about who was allowed to vote for the competition, although there appears to be genuine votes from sections of the Fratton faithful for this option as well.
Following the complaints, the Fanpower Stadium twitter page released the following statement: “We’ll be validating the Portsmouth Fanpower prize voting results before announcing the winning option next week. Keep voting!”
They went on to confirm: “The statue was an option provided by Portsmouth, but don’t worry we’ll be validating the results to ensure the voting reflects the real voice of Portsmouth fans.”
It seems as if the Southampton fans Scummers are trying to get their own back after Pompey fans did a similar thing back in 2001 when our South-Coast rivals were given the option to vote for their new kit on their official website, but it doesn’t look like the Scummers will get away with it this time!
