Portsmouth striker Nwankwo Kanu was absent from Pompey’s return to pre-season training yesterday, despite not getting permission from boss Michael Appleton. The Nigerian has gone AWOL.
Team-mate Aaron Mokoena was also missing from yesterday’s training session but is close to agreeing a deal to join South African side Bidvest Wits, however Kanu did not have permission, sparking big rumours as to where he might be.
Kanu used an excuse about a heart check-up last season after returning back late, however we are yet to hear from the Nigerian striker as to why he is away, this has sparked big rumours on social networking site Twitter as to where he may be.
#WheresKanu was trending on Twitter last night as Pompey fans speculated as to where he may be, comically checking local supermarkets, house cupboards and boots of cars to find the missing Pompey man – and even some fans have gone as far as creating missing persons pictures and replacing Where’s Wally with Where’s Kanu
Even former Pompey players got involved! Midfielder and now Restaurant-er Richard Hughes tweeted: “He may be polishing all the medals in his trophy cabinet,” whilst former goalkeeper Stephen Henderson confirmed: “No sign of Kanu in the Essex area!” Havant & Waterlooville’s Lewis Stockford said: “Checked the throne in Buckingham Palace, no sign of the King,” and former Pompey captain Jason Pearce tweeted: “Absolutely no sign of Kanu in the Yorkshire area.” Ricardo Rocha and Scot Allan have also confirmed no sightings on Twitter.
Kanu has still got a year left on his current contract however the club are trying to come to an agreement with the striker who scored Pompey’s FA Cup winning goal back in 2008. Kanu has agreed to cancel his contract, but only if he is paid his remaining wages for the year of that contract.

Maybe he’s in an office somewhere counting the millions of pounds that Pompey are never going to pay to charities, small business and taxes (used to fund nurses, police, teachers)? If so, don’t expect him back anytime soon. 130 million is a hell of a number to count to….
