Two well fought, well deserved points are what Portsmouth have to show for their opening two matches of their League One campaign. A seven-hour journey to Carlisle awaits on Saturday where they hope to follow in Tranmere’s footsteps after they saw off the Cumbrians quite comfortably during the week.
Brunton Park is a tough place to go but with Portsmouth’s new found spirit, they will fancy themselves to bring back a point at the very least. Greg Abbott wasn’t happy with his side in midweek so he has bought Jake Jervis in on-loan to bolster his misfiring forward line.
Portsmouth are best priced at 11/4 with Ladbrokes to get their first three-points of the campaign on the board at Brunton Park. Local bookmakers The Betting Room are offering 9/4 about an away-win for the Blues.
The tie is 12/5 with Coral. The Betting Room offer 9/4 for the same outcome.
The Cumbrians are best priced 5/4 with BetVictor to prevail victorious on Saturday afternoon. EVS with The Betting Room. Remember we never advise backing against Pompey!
Goalscorer markets are now slowly starting to be priced up now the players are starting to be more of a permanent fixture at Portsmouth.
Izale McLeod is an obvious pick. His career started brightly with MK Dons where he found the net 54 times in three seasons before his career went stale. It took him a while to get settled again but enjoyed his time at Barnet. In his last two seasons with the Bees he scored 32 goals. He’s a born goalscorer, as seen by the 18,000 fans that attended the opening match. He’s 7/1 with a few bookmakers to open the scoring just like he did against Bournemouth.
A lad I like the look of is Liam Walker. He looks like a real find and because he’s not well known there are some big prices available on him to find the net. He came mighty close to scoring on his debut (he had a few efforts on target as well as hitting the post) in midweek but he can be backed at 16/1 to open the scoring at Brunton Park. 6/1 to score at anytime with William Hill. He was known as the ‘crown jewels’ at his former club in Spain. Rascal left-peg in his locker.
The Pompey Pages’ TIP OF THE WEEK: Highest Scoring Half: 2nd Half @ 6/5 with Coral.
