Gabor Gyepes – Unlikely Hero

It has been a busy few months for Pompey in the transfer market, with plenty of new faces for the fans to remember. Particular highlights being Brian Howard, Mustapha Dumbuya and the recent signing of the exciting Akos Buzsaky. One signing has arrived with minimal fuss, but has since become the name on the fans’ lips .. Gabor Gyepes.

The towering Hungarian has turned in solid performances over the past few weeks, bring a consistency to the defensive side of the squad and building a strong partnership with Lubomir Michalik.

Despite his superb defensive performances, he has also emerged as an unlikely match winner after goals against Scunthorpe, Yeovil and MK Dons. He is a constant threat from set pieces not only with his head but also with his feet after a fantastic swivel and finish at Huish Park.

Michael Appleton has challenged his attacking players to wade in with more goals, but he’ll no doubt be delighted to call on that unlikely hero who has three goals in six appearances, to stick it in the onion bag when we really need it.
