With two pre-season wins out of two for Pompey so far, and the next game coming against Conference side Braintree Town, the first real test for Guy Whittingham’s men will be against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Although great warm-up games early on in pre-season, comfortable wins against Havant & Waterlooville and Bognor Regis Town, don’t really scream out as testing. Neither does Tuesday’s upcoming match away at Braintree.
However, the visit of Championship side Charlton Athletic to Fratton Park on Saturday is one to look forward to.
Now two flights above League Two Pompey, Charlton will prove to be a good side with a much larger budget than the Blues, under manager Chris Powell.
Powell has done a great job with Charlton so far, and with Whittingham’s new squad and fresh faces, it’ll be great to see how Pompey get on against the Addicks.
Although most people will tell you that pre-season results don’t mean anything, Pompey will be working hard to prove how good they are when facing Charlton on Saturday.
The match against Charlton is a ‘Pay What You Like’ game, allowing fans to choose how much it will cost them to watch the game. Click here for more information.
